Fairfield residents have only days left to comment on the city’s draft plan for the next financial year, with public exhibition of Fairfield City Council’s 2026-2027 Operational Plan closing on Wednesday, 29 April 2026.
The draft plan sets out the work, services and projects Council proposes to deliver from 1 July 2026, including capital works, service priorities, fees and charges, and longer-term financial planning.
Council has placed the draft documents on public exhibition through its Have Your Say Fairfield page, where residents can review the documents and make a submission before the deadline.
The documents on exhibition include the Draft 2026–2027 Operational Plan, Draft Pricing Policy, Fees and Charges, the Draft 2026/27–2035/36 Long Term Financial Plan, and proposed amendments to the 2025/26–2028/29 Delivery Program.
Mayor Frank Carbone said the draft plan outlines the work and projects Council will undertake in the coming financial year, and encouraged residents to review what is planned for their suburb or street and provide feedback. His comments are published in the Mayor’s Message, “A big year of projects ahead”.
According to Council, the draft plan includes $69.2 million in proposed capital works for 2026–2027. Major areas identified include design work for the Community and Events Centre at Fairfield Showground, open space improvements at Brenan Park in Smithfield, Longfield Park in Cabramatta and Allambie Park in Bossley Park.
Council has also listed proposed investment in everyday local infrastructure, including $15.8 million for roads and transport, $14.6 million for playgrounds, sportsfields and open space, $4.4 million for public buildings, and $2.1 million for new and upgraded footpaths.
While annual operational plans can sometimes be seen as routine Council paperwork, they are among the most important documents residents can review. They show where money is expected to be spent, which projects are being prioritised, what services are planned, and how Council intends to balance community needs with financial sustainability.
Fairfield City Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting framework includes the 10-year Community Strategic Plan, the four-year Delivery Program, the one-year Operational Plan, the Long Term Financial Plan, Asset Management Strategy and Workforce Management Strategy. Council says the framework requires open and transparent reporting to the community.
Residents can provide feedback online through Fairfield City Council’s Have Your Say Fairfield page, including by adding a marker to the interactive map. Physical copies of the draft plans are also available at Council’s Administration Centre, libraries, leisure centres, Fairfield City Museum and Gallery, and Fairfield City HQ.
Submissions close on Wednesday, 29 April 2026.
