Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) is taking major strides toward its highly anticipated opening in late 2026. The airport, set to become Sydney’s largest and most advanced aviation hub, has announced two significant retail tenders aimed at enhancing passenger experience and delivering world-class services.

WSI recently released a tender for operators to oversee foreign exchange and ATM services across its domestic, international, and arrivals precincts. The tender marks the third retail opportunity at the airport as its retail precinct continues to take shape. With 7,000 square metres of leasable retail space, including over 40 stores, WSI is seeking innovative foreign exchange operators to deliver exceptional services with a broad range of currencies and competitive value for passengers. Approximately 60 square metres of space is allocated specifically for foreign exchange operations, ensuring seamless service for travellers.

Simon Hickey, CEO of WSI, highlighted the significance of this milestone: “This airport has been decades in the making, and years of construction have seen it rise out of the ground. It’s been an incredible journey for the people of this vibrant region to witness, and one that will soon see them catching their first flight from WSI. With construction more than 90 per cent complete, we’re now at the exciting stage of inviting retailers and commercial partners to join us as we get closer to opening.”

In addition, WSI has launched a tender for a 560-square-metre tenancy dedicated to travel essentials. This space will cater to passengers’ needs with essential travel items, convenience products, and unique offerings. The tender reflects WSI’s commitment to delivering a premier shopping and dining experience for passengers, workers, and the wider Western Sydney community.

Glyn Williams, General Manager for Retail at WSI, expressed enthusiasm about the momentum building within the retail precinct: “It’s wonderful to launch another tender as WSI’s retail precinct progresses. We’re excited to hear from operators who can deliver compelling and innovative services that enhance the passenger experience.”

Once fully operational, WSI is expected to handle over 80 million passengers annually, rivalling major global hubs like London’s Heathrow Airport. As the airport nears completion, tenders for other categories, including food and beverage, vending, and general retail, will be released over the next 12 months.
