The Pulse The Pulse The Pulse

No doubt about it, it’s a bit of a trainwreck. We’re talking about The Pulse radio show, co-hosted by your well-known independent campaigner, Michael Andjelkovic—yep, the guy who dominates and blows up our Facebook feeds every week around Liverpool—and, BJ, a local real estate agent who thought getting on the radio might be good for business. To be honest, the show is pretty bad. It’s likely some of the worst radio ever. But sometimes—just sometimes—some good stuff happens on the show. We certainly love doing it. It’s a community radio station, after all, and it’s radio…you can switch us off.

Regardless of our challenges, we push on. Every Thursday, rain, hail, or shine, at 9 AM, we hit the mic and go LIVE on 89.3 2GLF for a couple of hours to bung on about stuff. If nothing else, we’re two local ratepayers who care about our area. The acoustics are awful, and it’s best described as two grumpy old men meeting up once a week to talk about matters important to our area, while heavy-breathing down the mic. Yes, it’s absolutely punishing.

This was not a Labor surge. It was a warning sign for the Liberals.

But getting past all that, there’s heart here. You’ll find Pulse co-host Michael Andjelkovic, who has done a fantastic job for our local community over many years. Michael has always campaigned for locals, dedicating not just a finger or an arm, but every waking hour to petitions and advocating for things that are now actually built in our area, some costing millions. You might not always agree with Michael Andjelkovic, but no one can say he’s not invested in the best interests of local residents. He works hard, and to be honest, it’s a thankless job—but I think all residents quietly appreciate Michael keeping an eye on things. (Award season’s around the corner, Michael!)

And then there’s me, BJ. I’m not ashamed to say I’m a local real estate agent who, recently, spends no time selling houses, and all the time, trying not to put my foot in my mouth. It’s harder than you think. Needless to say, I find this entire situation at Liverpool Council absolutely fascinating, especially given the evidence coming out of the public hearings recently. For those of you that start to have a “nose around” the public hearings and take the time to read a few of the news articles by SMH and The Daily Telegraph, you will certainly not be disappointed. Warning, it is addictive..The story is one of Liverpool finding herself again. It’s a bit hard to follow at times, but for those closely watching it certainly wouldnt be out of place on a TV series potentially, and has been compared to as “Game of Thrones” on more than one occasion.

So, Why Listen to The Pulse Then?

Surrounding our terrible radio show are the real superstars of The Pulse: The many local leadership voices across Fairfield and Liverpool, including state and federal members of Parliament. Each voice speaks from their own experience, and we reckon it’s pretty good. We also bring some of the best local community voices to air, weighing in on real issues we currently face as a community.

It is really nice to talk to local leaders in a casual community radio environment rather than just reading a newspaper or press release—just real, one-on-one chats, which, community radio is pretty great for. -BJ

Over the last few weeks we have had some great guests Including (linked below in red).

  • Fairfield Update with Mayor Frank Carbone

Liverpool Council Meeting Problem

  • Ms. Charishma Kaliyanda MP on Warwick Farm Station cleanup and teaching us what a “Conflict of Interest” actually means and how it applies to councillors
  • Mr. Nathan Hagarty MP on what’s got people talking about Liverpool Council again
  • Anne Stanley MP, Member for Werriwa, sending a message of patience to the local community
  • Liverpool City Councillor Mr. Peter Ristevski

We are also talking about the Moorebank Intermodel alot lately with Mr Eric North from (RAID) or about to be “Think Moore” from 11am -12PM. Its a fascinating series of events and anyone living on the East side of Liverpool should really be listening.

Be Heard on The Pulse

Here at Community Radio The Pulse, we’re doing what we can to provide our local residents an opportunity to be heard. We open our phone lines from 9:30 AM each Thursday. The number is 9822 8893, and we’d love to hear from you.

Tune in as we help the community understand the very latest from the Public Hearings and Public Inquiry into Liverpool City Council. We have a facebook page and also a YouTube channel that has most days of the public hearings available for residents to watch, and of course our weekly radio show, The Pulse, live in studio Thursdays from 9am. You can listen back for FREE to all episodes on demand here.

Sponsorship Opportunity

We’re currently looking for a sponsor for our weekly show, The Pulse. If you’re a local business wanting to reach out to our Local Community, sponsoring The Pulse would be a great way to get your name out there. For $500 per episode, you’ll receive a mention at the top of the show and every sponsor break. All funds raised go directly back into our community radio station, hopefully enabling us to bring more programs in different languages right here to 89.3 2GLF. If you’re interested in sponsoring The Pulse, please email office@893fm.com.au.
