In a decisive move to revitalise Liverpool’s central business district, Councillor Peter Ristevski has successfully introduced a game-changing parking initiative that promises to breathe new life into George Street and support local businesses.

A Victory for Local Business and Community

Understanding the challenges faced by both business owners and residents, Councillor Ristevski has taken swift action to address the declining foot traffic in Liverpool’s CBD. His recently approved motion introduces complimentary on-street parking from 4 PM onwards, Monday through Friday, along the vital stretch from Moore Street to Scott Street.

“This is about making Liverpool’s CBD more accessible and business-friendly,” says Councillor Ristevski. “We need to remove barriers that prevent people from enjoying our local shops and restaurants during the evening hours.”

Common Sense Solution to a Complex Problem

The initiative, which received unanimous support from Council, demonstrates Ristevski’s practical approach to urban planning and business development. By implementing free parking from 4 PM, the motion directly addresses several key issues:

  • Supporting local businesses during crucial evening trading hours
  • Encouraging more residents to shop locally
  • Simplifying parking rules for visitors to the CBD
  • Creating a more vibrant evening atmosphere in Liverpool’s center

Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun said during the meeting that infringement officers working in the area finished work each day at 4PM anyway. Peter Ristevski later said in an interview “Why then confuse residents any further? No wonder they are angry! Surely us posting signs correctly can only be of benefit to residents and business in the area”, he added

In what seems like a never ending loosing streak for the Liverpool Mayor who will be forced to front a public inquiry in the new year, Mr Ned Mannouns, claim of defamation against Mr Ristevski on an unrelated matter was dismissed in court on Friday according to ABC. Mayor Mannoun has been ordered to pay all Mr Ristevski’s court costs.

12 Month Measured Approach with Clear Objectives

What sets this initiative apart is its thoughtful implementation. The 12-month trial period will allow Council to gather concrete data on the impact of the program, with a comprehensive report to evaluate both costs and benefits. This evidence-based approach shows Councillor Ristevski’s commitment to responsible governance while taking decisive action for community benefit.

Ticketless Parking Scrapped

Liverpool City Council also discussed the scrapping of ticketless parking at this weeks council meeting under the careful eye of Mr Ristevski. The council are currently undertaking the proceess of transitioning ticketing after the State Government stepped in to stop ticketless parking although an official start date was not given suring the meeting.

Strong Leadership in Action

The unanimous Council support for the motion reflects the strong leadership shown by Councillor Ristevski in bringing forward practical solutions to real community issues. The initiative demonstrates his understanding of the delicate balance between supporting local business growth and managing council resources responsibly.

Looking Forward

As Liverpool continues to grow and develop, initiatives like this show how practical, community-focused solutions can make a real difference. The new parking arrangement, set to commence from December 1st, represents a significant step forward in making Liverpool’s CBD more accessible and business-friendly.

Residents and business owners alike can look forward to a more vibrant, accessible city center, thanks to Councillor Ristevski’s proactive approach to community development and business support.
