Local residents in Liverpool are likely aware of the highly politicised road within the Liverpool Local Government Area, namely Hoxton Park Road. The upgrade of this road has long been deemed essential for connecting residents to the new Western Sydney International Airport and supporting the rapid residential development in the area.
In a landmark development for the Liverpool community, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and NSW Premier Chris Minns were on-site today to announce a transformative investment of $1 billion for the upgrade of Fifteenth Avenue. This significant project aims to enhance connectivity between Liverpool and the new Western Sydney International Airport, addressing long-standing infrastructure needs in the region.
Both the Federal and NSW governments will each contribute $500 million to upgrade Fifteenth Avenue, which currently accommodates over 22,000 vehicles daily. This investment is crucial for alleviating future congestion, as the population in the area is projected to grow by 63,000 residents by 2041.
Nathan Hagarty, Member for Leppington and Anne Stanley Member for Werriwa were commended by the Premier for their persistence in advocating for local residents, with the Premier noting that Nathan had been particularly tenacious in his efforts to see the upgrade completed. Mr Hagarty expressed his excitement about the announcement on Facebook:
“🚧 $1 BILLION FOR FIFTEENTH AVENUE! 🚧 It was an absolute pleasure to have Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Premier Chris Minns at West Hoxton today to announce that the Albanese and Minns Labor Governments are delivering a $1 billion upgrade to Fifteenth Avenue—a true game-changer for our region.”
Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun stated in a press release today, “This is not only a win for local roads but also a win for the need to better connect to the new Western Sydney International Airport.” He added, “My council ran a grassroots campaign with community advocates, and we achieved a significant win for local roads. I thank the thousands of people who signed our petition, supported the Council’s campaign, and applied pressure to decision-makers.”
While the e-petition has received 2,162 signatures at the time of writing, it falls well short of the 20,000 signature target listed on the Liverpool Listens webpage. The Mayor also confirmed on his social media page that a consultant was hired at a cost of $100,000 to ratepayers.

It is also recognised that Liverpool Council claimed that the upgrade would cost at least 500 million dollars which is a long way short of the billion dollars announced today.
The announcement of the $1 billion upgrade for Fifteenth Avenue marks a significant milestone for the Liverpool community. This project promises not only to alleviate traffic congestion but also to enhance the overall quality of life for residents and facilitate future growth in the region.
